Carres aux Date


Ingredients:

1 cup brown sugar
2 cups flour
2 cups rolled oats
pinch of salt
1 tsp baking soda
½ cold water
1 cup butter at room temperature

1 cup pitted dates
1 cup sugar
½ cup water

Method:
·    In a mixing bowl add brown sugar, flour rolled oats, salt, baking soda, water and butter and mix together to form a mealy mixture
·    In a sauce pot add dates sugar and water, simmer on medium-low heat until thick
·    Divide the mealy dough into two using one half to line the bottom of a greased dish and pack down
·    Pour the reduced date mixture to the pressed dough
·    Top with the remaining mealy dough mix but leave loose
·    Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown at 325f
·    Let cool and cut into squares
